Loudoun County Residents Will Benefit from New HCA Hospital

A new hospital has been proposed for Loudoun County according to the Washington Post. The Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) wants to build the $195 million hospital on Route 50 at the intersection of Gum Spring Road. HCA had wanted to build in the Broadlands section of Ashburn, but neighbors in that more residential area balked and the Board of Supervisors blocked it.

Initially, HCA had said the Route 50 corridor couldn't support a hospital, but now says it's taken the county's long-term development goals into consideration and has come up with a new plan for here.

If approved by the county and state, the 164-bed Stone Spring Medical Center could open in December 2015.

This is great step for Loudoun County to take in efforts to support future growth. This is specifically welcoming to residents in the southwestern part of the county that have to drive nearly 45 minutes to get to the hospital in Leesburg. The addition of a new hospital will help to improve property values in the area along Route 50.

"In a startling reversal, the Hospital Corporation of America announced a proposal Wednesday to build a hospital on Route 50 in Loudoun County, apparently signaling the end of a long struggle with rival Inova Health System over its future in the growing area.

StoneSpring Medical Center, which would be Loudoun's second hospital, would have 164 beds, including 124 acute-care beds, cost $195 million and open in December 2015. HCA officials estimate the hospital at Gum Spring Road in southern Loudoun would create 500 health-care jobs. The proposal needs approval from the state and county."
