Washington County Faces $5.8 Million Budget Shortfall

Southern Foodways Alliance via FlickrIn a joint meeting of the School Board and the Washington County Board of Supervisors, there are likely to be diverging opinions about how the County may address a massive $5.8 million budget shortfall.  Many localities are in the same situation as they await some indication from the General Assembly as to how steep state budget cuts will be. As the legislature slashes education, public safety and transportation, local governments must re-allocate local funds to mitigate the impact on its citizens.  Local officials have the choice of raising taxes to increase revenue or keep taxes as they are and make significant cuts in services.
