Pittsylvania County property owners to pay lower real estate taxesPittsylvania County property owners will pay less in taxes for the 2010-11 fiscal year. The Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to lower the rate from 56 cents per $100 of assessed value to 52 cents per $100 of assessed value. The board is required to set a rate that generates no more than a 1% increase in real estate tax revenue from the year before. Virginia statute requires the board to decrease next year's rate because the county’s 2009 land valuation was higher than it was in 2005. Read more in the Danville News...
