Lawmakers Face Tough Times to Balance State Budget

 

Virginia's lawmakers will have their hands full as the General Assembly commences tomorrow. Likely facing a $4 billion budget shortfall, the spending cuts will be deep and will reverberate across the Commonwealth.  At the last public hearing on the budget, countless advocates waited their turn to state their opposition to the cuts.  Few programs are likely to escape unscathed as education, health care and public safety comprise 80% of the General Fund budget.
