Hampton flood map changes presented at council meetingThe Hampton City Council presented a report on updated federal flood maps that may require some Hampton residents to buy flood insurance. Some of the flood zones outlined in the maps, last updated in 1995, have changed. That means that some properties currently in a flood zone are no longer designated at risk for flooding, while others that had been exempt are now within flood zones. About 7000 properties are affected. Information is available about upcoming public meetings about the change and on FEMA's appeal process for those who disagree with proposed zones.
